Brenda and Eguíe

  • Ryles Jazz Club 212 Hampshire Street Cambridge, MA 02139

Puerto Rican pianist and composer Brenda Hopkins Miranda left Boston 14 years ago after completing a Master’s degree in Contemporary Improvisation at New England Conservatory. You can bet she is excited to come back to the city that was her home for five years. Hopkins Miranda has kept busy ever since she left Boston. As a bandleader she has performed in the Caribbean, Central and South America, the United States and Europe. She has released five recordings: Boricua on Board, Bohemia, Recuerdos de Granada/Memoirs from Granada, Simple and her latest Aeropiano.

Brenda’s music is a tasty blend of global influences. Having grown up with the rhythms and melodies, which encompass Puerto Rican music, she developed her innate talent and expanded her repertoire to include Caribbean, Spanish, European, North American and all sorts of multicultural fusions. Brenda is an adventurer in both her composing and playing. She mixes rhythms together with the intensity of a mad scientist and comes up with something quite unlike any other music out there.

Hopkins Miranda will be returning to Ryles to perform the music from her latest album Aeropiano. Special guest artist and friend, Puerto Rican percussionist and Berklee professor Eguie Catrillo will join her. Eguie is a world known artist who has performed and/or recorded with Tito Puente, Steve Winwood, Michael Brecker, Ruben Blades, Paquito D’Rivera, Michel Camilo, KC and the Sunshine Band and many others. The band will also include some of the best musicians in town like Steve Langone on drums and Fernando Huergo on bass. This concert will be filled with all the passion and excitement of an artist eager to reconnect with a city that means so much to her.
