Resonancia (Resonance) | William Acosta, Aneet R. Fontes and Sebastian Leal
William Acosta: William Acosta’s paintings are layered with detailed architectural elements, alluring iconography and the human form. Referencing glamorous photographs from advertising and instagram, the artist’s intent is to convey the expectations built in our modern landscape of social media. He reminds us how imbedded imagery informs our subconscious. Acosta’s larger than life beautiful women superimposed over cityscapes are as thrilling as the myth itself.
Aneet R. Fontes: Living in Havana, Cuba for 25 years shaped Aneet Fontes' fascination in urban life. The visual complexity of the urban landscape is the focus of her paintings. She depicts the world visible to the eye, as well as the parallel more complex world that exists simultaneously. Fontes captures reflections in glass and in water, discovering a new composition in the blurred imagery.
Sebastian Leal: Enchanted by Provincetown after his first visit 5 years ago, Leal has focused his attention entirely on our dear town. Leal spectacularly captures buildings along Commercial Street and transforms them into a new “realism”. In his words, “My emotions guide the entire process of pictorial composition, selection of colors and shades. My images are not translations of landscapes captured by the camera. Rather they are a search for subliminal expressive intentions; a proposal of messages that allude to distance, remoteness and the sensation of absence”. With the interpretation of the landscape, he retains a realistic style, painting architectural snapshots of Provincetown that will immediately evoke nostalgia and appreciation for our beloved town.
