The Puerto Rican Festival of Massachusetts is a cultural organization that amplifies and celebrates the Puerto Rican community of the Commonwealth. They build community through artistic and cultural celebration, youth and community engagement, education, and service.
This event will celebrate and promote Puerto Rican culture and heritage; foster community engagement and unity; and provide educational opportunities about traditional Puerto Rican customs and arts. It includes the following activities:
Cultural Performances
Bomba and Plena Dance Performances: Local dance groups will perform traditional bomba and plena music and dance, showcasing the vibrant rhythms and cultural significance of these art forms.
Cultural Pageant: A highlight of the festival, featuring participants in traditional dresses representing various towns in Puerto Rico, with storytelling about each attire's significance.
Workshops
Dance Workshops: Interactive sessions where attendees can learn the basics of bomba and plena dancing.
Craft Workshops: Hands-on activities where participants can create traditional Puerto Rican crafts, such as vejigante masks or handmade jewelry.
Family Activities
Kids' Zone: A designated area with games, crafts, and activities focused on Puerto Rican folklore and culture.
Storytelling Sessions: Storytellers sharing traditional Puerto Rican tales and legends, engaging children and families.
Entertainment
Live Music: local musicians will perform traditional Puerto Rican music, inviting attendees to dance and celebrate.
DJ featuring a mix of traditional and contemporary Latin music to keep the energy high.
