Led by Venezuelan pianist, composer, and Berklee College of Music and Longy School of Music Professor Leo Blanco, “The Sugar Road” is a transformative, multidisciplinary world music show exploring how the global commodity of sugar, and the socio-economic realities of the transatlantic slave trade, shaped the music and rhythms of the Americas. Bringing together an international ensemble of musicians from China, India, the Caribbean, Africa & South America, this performance weaves together contemporary jazz, traditional Latin American, Indian Classical Music and Chinese music, with oral storytelling. The Sugar Road goes beyond a standard concert; it is a musical journey tracing human resilience, cultural fusion, and social justice across continents
