Join for this screening of Latino Pioneers in Boston –– Chapter 2 with Boston-based filmmaker Blanca Bonilla. The film's aim is to preserve and share local Latino stories from Boston history.

Latino Pioneers in Boston Chapter 2 is 1 hour and 20 minutes long. After the film screens, there will be a discussion with some of of the people profiled in the film, including  Jovita Fontanez, Alex Rodriguez, Felita Oyola, Fernando Domenech, Micho Spring, Consuelo Issacson, Jose Masso, Lucia Mayerson-David and Rosalba Soli.

Filmmaker bio:

Blanca Bonilla — Director, Curator, and Founder

Born in Lares, Puerto Rico, Blanca moved to Boston at age thirteen. A graduate of Boston Public Schools and Wheelock College, she has dedicated her career to the arts, education, and Boston’s Latino community.

Blanca was part of the founding team of Boston Arts Academy, where she led admissions for more than 20 years. She also created Two Languages, One Community, a documentary about educator Margarita Muñiz that premiered at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and was later featured internationally.

Her Latino Pioneers in Boston documentary series celebrates the contributions of Latinos who paved the way for future generations. Chapter 1 premiered at the Boston Public Library, with subsequent screenings at Harvard, Tufts, Lesley and local libraries. She has also completed Chapter 2, continuing her mission of preserving and sharing Latino stories.

Blanca’s lifelong commitment to the arts, education, and community reflects the transformative power of storytelling and advocacy.
