Yarumi González: Artist in Residence Showcase

  • The Multicultural Arts Center 41 Second Street Cambridge, MA United States (map)

The Artist in Residence Showcase celebrates the culmination of MAC’s residency program, highlighting works developed through sustained artistic exploration and experimentation. Rather than focusing solely on finished pieces, the showcase invites audiences into the creative process, offering a glimpse into evolving ideas and artistic discovery. MAC is honored to announce this year’s Artist in Residence, Yarumi González. During her residency, González will continue developing a multidisciplinary, autobiographical work exploring identity, migration, and the American Dream through poetic and ritual-inspired storytelling, movement, video, photography, installation, and performance.

Yarumi González is a Venezuelan woman from Caracas. Since childhood, she has been deeply moved by art and social struggles. Her journey as an artist began as a personal decision in adulthood.

During her university years, she chose to pursue her passion and discovered that art is a multifaceted field that extends beyond mere aesthetic enjoyment; it mirrors intricate social and power dynamics. Since then, she has worked extensively with rural and urban communities, blending art with community outreach.

She has been invited to participate as a dancer and actress in numerous productions, working with prominent figures in dance, theater, and circus, both nationally and internationally.

Notable works include "Troyanas," "El tronco de un olivo" directed by Jericó Montilla, "Aphrodite and the Judgment of Paris" — a monumental piece by the Catalan group La Fura dels Baus, and "Iyawo" by Ana María Ayala.

She is a co-author, actress, and dancer in "Tropical" by Igual a Uno Teatro, recognized with international awards, including from the International Theatre Institute/World Organization for the Performing Arts (2019).
